SWAT, Pakistan: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has ruled out any concessions or negotiations with terrorist groups, saying a coordinated and decisive response is essential to eliminate militancy. He also alleged that militants continue to receive support from across the border and called for stronger action to address the threat.
The Governor made the remarks while speaking to reporters after visiting victims injured in the recent Kabal suicide bombing at Saidu Sharif Hospital in Swat. He praised the sacrifices of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and security forces, saying they had played a critical role in the fight against terrorism despite facing resource constraints.
Calls for a Unified Counterterrorism Strategy
Kundi said the federal and provincial governments should adopt a unified strategy to tackle terrorism. He also urged the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to convene an in-camera meeting to review the province’s deteriorating security situation and formulate a coordinated response.
The Governor said all political parties were united against terrorism, adding that those responsible for attacks on mosques, educational institutions, and public places had no connection with Islam.
Concerns Over Cross-Border Militancy
Kundi called on the Afghan government to take effective measures against militant groups allegedly operating from Afghan territory. He said Pakistan had repeatedly raised concerns over cross-border support for militants and stressed the need for concrete action to prevent such activities.
Visit to Kabal Bombing Victims
Earlier, the Governor visited the injured victims at Saidu Sharif Hospital, inquired about their condition, prayed for their recovery, and directed hospital authorities to ensure they receive the best possible medical care.
Remarks on Malakand Tax Exemption
Responding to questions from journalists, Kundi welcomed the provincial government’s position on the tax exemption issue in the Malakand Division. He said he would discuss the matter with Federal Minister Engineer Amir Muqam and raise it with the federal government.
Commenting on the purchase of a helicopter, the Governor said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government could acquire one if required, subject to the province’s available financial resources.
