Chughtai Art Awards 2026 held in Çorum to promote Pakistan–Türkiye cultural ties

ÇORUM, Türkiye — The Chughtai Art Awards 2026 were held in the Turkish city of Çorum on Tuesday, bringing together students, officials and artists in an event aimed at strengthening cultural ties between Pakistan and Türkiye.

Organised by the Embassy of Pakistan in Ankara, the event was held under the theme “Nature’s Wonders: From the Himalayas to Cappadocia,” highlighting shared cultural and natural heritage. Pakistan’s Ambassador to Türkiye, Dr. Yusuf Junaid, attended as chief guest alongside local officials and educators.

In his remarks, the ambassador underscored the longstanding relationship between the two countries and described the event as a platform to promote cultural exchange and youth engagement through art.

Local officials, including Çorum Governor Ali Çağan and Mayor Khalil Ibrahim Aşkın, highlighted the importance of such initiatives in strengthening people-to-people connections and fostering mutual understanding.

Students recognised for artistic achievements

In the main competition, first prize was awarded to Nehir Aylan of Çorum Fine Arts High School. Eylem Dokbaş secured second place, while Elif Bera Yıldırım of Özyeğdir Social Sciences High School finished third.

Awards in the Emerging Artist category were presented to Batuhan Koyun, Ceren Kıvan and Ece Kaynak. Honorary certificates were also given to Samet Saygın, Gözde Kayaer and Beru Yağmur Ertaşmış.

Cultural initiative with growing reach

The awards are named after renowned Pakistani artist Abdur Rahman Chughtai and have been organised annually since 2011 in various Turkish cities, including Ankara, Konya, Bursa and Istanbul.

Officials said the initiative continues to serve as a platform for promoting cultural dialogue and strengthening bilateral relations through youth participation and artistic collaboration.
