ISLAMABAD/LONDON: Cambridge International Education has launched an investigation after confirming that an A Level Mathematics paper was leaked ahead of the scheduled exam, affecting candidates in Pakistan and across multiple regions including South Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Europe.

The board said AS Level Mathematics Paper 12 (9709) was shared in breach of exam regulations before the test, raising concerns over fairness and the integrity of the assessment process for thousands of students.

According to reports, the paper surfaced on social media nearly six hours before the exam on Wednesday. Cambridge said it is urgently assessing the scale of the leak and working to identify its source.

Officials said the organisation is reviewing how widely the material was circulated and will determine appropriate next steps after completing the investigation. It added that protecting candidates from disadvantage and maintaining confidence in the exam system remain key priorities.

Students have been advised to continue preparing for upcoming exams and attend them as scheduled. Cambridge said any decision regarding remedial measures will be made after a full review by senior experts.

The board reiterated that cases of exam malpractice are rare but said strict action is taken where violations are confirmed, including against centres or individuals involved.

Cambridge International Education is expected to provide a further update on May 7, 2026, as the investigation continues.
