BEIJING: BYD has unveiled its Denza Z hyperconvertible, an electric performance car capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in under two seconds, signalling its entry into the high-performance EV segment.
The model, introduced at the Beijing Auto Show, features a tri-motor powertrain delivering over 1,000 horsepower. The launch reflects intensifying competition in the premium electric vehicle market, where manufacturers are pushing advancements in speed, charging and range.
The Denza Z is designed as a four-seater convertible with a retractable soft-top and lightweight carbon fibre components aimed at improving efficiency and performance. It also incorporates BYD’s DiSus-M intelligent suspension system, which adjusts in real time to road conditions to enhance stability and driving control.
Fast charging and extended range
The vehicle uses BYD’s Blade battery technology and supports Flash Charging 2.0, enabling ultra-fast charging that can significantly reduce downtime under optimal conditions.
Based on available specifications, the model is expected to deliver a driving range of approximately 599 kilometres under WLTP standards, aligning with BYD’s broader push into long-range EV capability.
Testing and global debut plans
The Denza Z is currently undergoing performance testing at the Nürburgring ahead of its planned global debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July.
Pricing details have not yet been confirmed, though the model is expected to be positioned above the Denza Z9 GT in BYD’s lineup.
The unveiling highlights BYD’s strategy to expand beyond mass-market EVs into the premium performance segment, particularly in Europe, where demand for high-end electric vehicles is increasing.
