Police in Lahore have launched an investigation after two employees of a private bank were accused of fleeing with Rs50 million that a customer had reportedly brought to the branch for deposit.

The incident occurred in the Rang Mahal area, one of Lahore’s busiest commercial districts. Authorities say the case has raised concerns about banking security procedures and the handling of large cash transactions.

According to police, a citizen arrived at the bank to deposit Rs50 million in cash. The customer allegedly handed over the money to bank employees at the counter after following the required procedures and was assured that the amount would be credited to his account.

However, police said the employees allegedly disappeared with the cash before the transaction was completed. The customer later informed law enforcement authorities after discovering that the money had not been deposited.

One Suspect Arrested, Rs30 Million Recovered

Police launched an investigation immediately after receiving the complaint and began efforts to trace the suspects.

During the initial operation, authorities arrested one of the accused employees and recovered Rs30 million from his possession, according to investigators.

Police said raids are underway to apprehend the second suspect, who remains at large. Officials expressed confidence that further arrests and recoveries would be made as the investigation progresses.

Investigation Into Security Procedures

Law enforcement agencies are also examining whether additional individuals were involved in the incident and whether there were any shortcomings in the bank’s internal security and monitoring systems.

Officials said all aspects of the case are being investigated, including compliance with banking procedures and possible lapses that may have facilitated the alleged fraud.

The incident has sparked questions about customer security and accountability in handling large financial transactions, while authorities continue their inquiry.
