ISLAMABAD, September 18: Bank Alfalah, in collaboration with the Association for Mothers and Newborns (AMAN), Zindagi Trust and Kiran Foundation, has supported the launch of a school-based initiative aimed at improving health and financial literacy among mothers, caregivers and students.
The School-Based Family Learning Initiative, a 12-month programme, was launched at Zindagi Trust’s SMB Fatima Jinnah School in Karachi and will operate across three Zindagi Trust schools and two Kiran Foundation schools in Karachi and Shangla.
The programme will use schools as a platform to reach not only students but also their mothers, caregivers and families, extending health and financial education beyond classrooms.
Under the initiative, teachers will receive training to conduct health-literacy sessions with mothers and caregivers.
AMAN’s digital health-literacy platform, Bakhabar Noujawan, will provide educational content covering key health and wellbeing topics.
Bank Alfalah will work directly with AMAN to integrate financial-literacy content into the Bakhabar Noujawan platform, helping mothers and caregivers develop practical knowledge to make informed financial decisions.
The launch included remarks from Dr Azra Ahsan, Secretary General of AMAN; Shehzad Roy, Founder and President of Zindagi Trust; Sabina Khatri, Founder and Chairperson of Kiran Foundation; and Madiha Javed Qureshi, Head of Corporate Communication at Bank Alfalah.
During the event, Dr Raj Kumar, EPI Programme Director, Sindh, highlighted the importance of vaccination and closer collaboration between the Expanded Programme on Immunization and the Education Department to strengthen health awareness and outreach.
The initiative aims to develop a model through which learning delivered at schools can reach mothers, caregivers and other family members.
Lessons from the 12-month programme will be documented to assess how the approach could potentially be introduced in other schools.
