Islamabad: Apple’s next entry-level iPad could receive one of its most significant upgrades in years, with a faster processor, more RAM and support for Apple Intelligence reportedly planned for the affordable tablet.
The new model is expected to arrive in the second quarter of 2027, although Apple has yet to officially announce the device or confirm its launch schedule.
According to details reportedly discovered in Apple code, the upcoming entry-level iPad could be powered by the A19 chip and feature 8GB of RAM.
That would represent a notable performance boost over the current entry-level model, which uses an A16 chip and comes with 6GB of RAM.
Apple Intelligence could be a major upgrade
One of the biggest expected changes is support for Apple Intelligence, potentially bringing the company’s growing suite of AI-powered features to its entry-level tablet lineup.
The device could also support Apple’s newer Siri AI capabilities, making artificial intelligence a more prominent part of the everyday iPad experience.
If the reported specifications prove accurate, the upgrade would significantly narrow the feature gap between Apple’s affordable iPad and more expensive models in areas such as AI and performance.
Wi-Fi 7 and 5G upgrades also expected
Connectivity could receive a major overhaul as well.
Reports suggest the cellular version may feature Apple’s C1X modem, with support for sub-6GHz 5G networks.
Apple’s N1 networking chip is also reportedly being considered for the tablet, potentially bringing support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread.
Together, these changes could make the next entry-level iPad considerably more capable than the current generation, particularly for users planning to keep their tablet for several years.
What could the new iPad cost?
Apple introduced the current entry-level iPad in March 2025. Its price has since increased to $449, according to the report.
With upgrades expected across the processor, memory, AI capabilities and connectivity, speculation suggests the next model could be priced at around $499 or higher.
However, Apple has not confirmed the specifications, price or release date, meaning the reported details could change before the tablet reaches the market.
