RAJANPUR — Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday announced the launch of the Apna Khait, Apna Rozgar initiative, under which landless and low-income families will be allotted three to five acres of state-owned land to help them build sustainable livelihoods.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of electric bus services in Rajanpur, the chief minister said the programme aims to promote inclusive economic growth by giving underprivileged citizens direct access to agricultural resources. She said the initiative is designed to reduce poverty and create long-term employment opportunities in rural areas.
Maryam Nawaz said nearly 250,000 acres of state land would be distributed free of cost under the scheme. She added that beneficiaries would be selected through a transparent process to ensure fairness and lasting economic impact for deserving families.
The chief minister also announced the introduction of a Kisan Card, which will allow farmers to purchase essential agricultural inputs, including fertilisers, pesticides and seeds, on easier and more affordable terms. She said the move is intended to reduce financial pressure on farmers and improve farm productivity.
Reaffirming her government’s commitment to balanced development, Maryam Nawaz said no district would be neglected and that previously underdeveloped areas such as Rajanpur are now receiving focused attention. She said development initiatives are being designed to ensure equal opportunities across all regions of Punjab.
During the event, the chief minister also announced the expansion of electric bus services to Rajanpur. She said 1,100 new electric buses would be inducted across Punjab to provide affordable, modern and environmentally friendly public transport facilities.
The Punjab government said the combined initiatives reflect its broader strategy to support farmers, improve rural livelihoods and strengthen sustainable development across the province.
