ISLAMABAD, Aug 4: Allama Iqbal Open University reviewed 33 PhD research synopses and 61 MS and MPhil research topics during the 78th meeting of its Board of Advanced Studies and Research, held under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood.
The two-day meeting brought together senior academics and university officials to evaluate research proposals from four faculties, with a focus on academic quality, timely completion and stronger research standards at the higher education level.
On the opening day, the board examined 19 PhD synopses and 13 MS and MPhil research topics submitted by scholars from the Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies.
Participants appreciated the academic depth, quality and critical approach reflected in the proposals and commended the researchers for their work.
The meeting was attended by AIOU deans, senior professors and faculty members. Women University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Aneela Kamal participated as an external expert.
Director BASR Prof. Dr. Zafar Iqbal Lillah presented the meeting agenda.
AIOU sets six-month target for research proposals
Addressing the meeting, Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood directed all four faculties to ensure that each stage of PhD research is completed within the prescribed timeframe.
He said PhD research proposals should be presented within six months of the completion of coursework, stressing that both quality and timely completion were essential for strengthening higher education standards.
The vice chancellor also paid tribute to former BASR director Prof. Dr. Irshad Ahmad Arshad for his role in building the board’s administrative framework.
He expressed confidence that the newly appointed director, Prof. Dr. Zafar Iqbal Lillah, would further improve the board’s research activities, administrative efficiency and overall performance.
More research topics scheduled for review
On the second day, the board is scheduled to consider 14 MS and MPhil research topics from the Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies, two from the Faculty of Education, 24 from the Faculty of Sciences and 22 from the Faculty of Social Sciences.
The Board of Advanced Studies and Research is responsible for reviewing and approving postgraduate and doctoral research proposals at the university.
