BISP Seeks SBP Support to Address Social Protection Wallet Challenges

KARACHI, September 7, 2026: Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid has sought the State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) coordination and facilitation to address operational challenges related to Social Protection Wallets (SPW) and improve their functioning and transparency.

Khalid raised the issues during a meeting with SBP Governor Jameel Ahmad in Karachi, where the two sides discussed the implementation and smooth operation of the Social Protection Wallet system.

The BISP chairperson highlighted matters requiring coordination from the central bank, with a focus on ensuring that SPW operations function effectively and transparently.

The meeting centred on operational issues linked to the implementation of the wallet system and the support required from SBP to address them.

Governor Jameel Ahmad assured Khalid of the State Bank’s full cooperation and support for the smooth and transparent operation of Social Protection Wallets.

He also expressed his commitment to providing all possible assistance to BISP on matters requiring coordination with the central bank to help ensure effective delivery of services to beneficiaries.

The discussions come as BISP works to improve the functioning of its Social Protection Wallet system, with effective coordination between the programme and the banking regulator identified as important for its implementation.
