Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing has called for the high-quality development of salt lake industrial bases and stronger natural disaster prevention and response systems during an inspection tour of Qinghai Province.
Zhang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, visited the northwestern province from Friday to Sunday. Qinghai is known for its salt lake resources, which support industries linked to magnesium, potash fertilizer and lithium batteries.
During the visit, Zhang inspected enterprises involved in magnesium, potash fertilizer and lithium battery production. He also visited a smart mining management and control center, where he reviewed production operations, research and development activities, and industrial planning.
Salt Lake Industry Development
Zhang said local authorities and enterprises should balance resource development with ecological and environmental protection.
He stressed the need to develop competitive industries based on Qinghai’s salt lake resources and local conditions. He also called for extending industrial chains toward higher value-added sectors to improve industrial quality and efficiency.
Salt lake resources are important for several strategic industries, including fertilizers, new energy materials and battery manufacturing.
Disaster Prevention and Emergency Response
In Xining, the provincial capital, Zhang visited an emergency shelter and an earthquake early warning center to review disaster monitoring, prevention and emergency response work.
He said disaster prevention capacity should be strengthened through better monitoring and early warning systems.
Zhang also called for more targeted support and guidance for grassroots-level disaster prevention, mitigation and relief work, saying efforts should focus on protecting people’s lives and property.
