Zaman Sohail And Fariha Siddiq Crowned National Chess Champions In Islamabad

Higher Education Commission’s Zaman Sohail and Punjab’s Fariha Siddiq claimed the men’s and women’s titles at the National Chess Championship held in Islamabad. More than 250 players from across Pakistan competed in the event, showcasing the country’s top chess talent.

Organized by the Chess Federation of Pakistan at the Pakistan Sports Complex, the championship featured competitors from multiple categories before concluding with the men’s and women’s finals.

Zaman Sohail Wins Men’s National Title

In the final round of the 34th National Men’s Chess Championship, Zaman Sohail secured the title with 5 points.

Punjab’s M. Zoriz Shab Khiz finished second with 4.5 points, while HEC’s A.R. Akhtar also scored 4.5 points and claimed third place on the tiebreak system.

Fariha Siddiq Dominates Women’s Championship

Punjab’s Fariha Siddiq delivered an unbeaten performance to win the 10th Women’s National Chess Championship with 10.5 points.

Zainobia Wasif finished as runner-up with 9 points, while Javeria secured third place after earning 8 points.

Closing Ceremony

Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry attended the closing ceremony as chief guest. Parliamentary Secretary for Culture and President of the Chess Federation of Pakistan Syed Zeeshan Naqvi, along with other officials, also participated in the prize distribution ceremony.

The tournament highlighted the continued growth of competitive chess in Pakistan and brought together leading players from across the country.
