LAHORE, October 19, 2026: Chinese electric two-wheeler manufacturer Yadea Technology Group has expressed interest in establishing a manufacturing facility in Punjab, potentially expanding its existing presence in Pakistan’s electric vehicle market through local production.
The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Punjab Industries and Commerce Minister Chaudhry Shafay Hussain and Yadea Technology Global Group Chairman Qiu Xin Yang in Lahore.
Both sides explored investment opportunities in electric mobility, including the possibility of setting up a manufacturing plant to serve Pakistan’s domestic market and support exports.
Punjab offers Yadea facilities in Special Economic Zones
According to reports, Yadea representatives indicated that the proposed manufacturing facility could cater to local demand while also producing electric two-wheelers for export markets.
The Punjab government offered assistance in establishing the plant within one of the province’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs).
The company was also encouraged to consider investment opportunities in electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
However, no investment amount, manufacturing capacity, specific plant location or commercial production schedule has been announced.
The project remains at the proposal stage, with discussions focused on potential investment rather than a confirmed factory launch.
Yadea already operates in Pakistan’s electric bike market
Yadea has an established presence in Pakistan through its electric two-wheeler business and dealership network.
The company has dealers in several major cities, including Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Karachi.
Its local operations have also been expanding after-sales services for customers.
Earlier in 2026, Yadea’s Pakistani distributor extended warranty coverage for models equipped with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries to four years or 50,000 kilometres.
The proposed Punjab manufacturing facility would represent a further expansion beyond the company’s existing retail and after-sales operations.
If implemented, local production could bring part of Yadea’s supply chain closer to Pakistani customers.
Fast-charging electric bike technology discussed
During the meeting, Yadea representatives also highlighted the company’s fast-charging technology for electric motorcycles.
The manufacturer has invested in several battery and charging technologies internationally, including fast-charging systems, sodium-ion batteries and other electric mobility solutions.
According to Yadea, the company operates 10 production bases worldwide, with manufacturing operations in countries including China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand and Mexico.
Its existing international manufacturing network provides the background for the proposed investment in Punjab, although the project has yet to move beyond preliminary discussions.
Local EV manufacturing could reduce dependence on imports
Punjab has attracted several electric vehicle investment proposals in recent months, particularly in electric motorcycles, battery technology and charging infrastructure.
For Pakistan’s two-wheeler industry, a key consideration will be the extent of local manufacturing and component sourcing achieved by any future Yadea facility.
If the proposed plant incorporates substantial local assembly and component procurement, it could help reduce dependence on imported complete vehicles.
Local production could also improve spare parts availability and potentially give the company greater flexibility in pricing and after-sales services.
However, these potential benefits would depend on the eventual scale and structure of the manufacturing operation.
For now, Yadea’s proposed Punjab plant remains an expression of investment interest rather than a confirmed manufacturing project.
Further developments will depend on decisions regarding the plant’s location, investment value, production capacity and expected commencement of operations.
