Water and Sanitation Services Company Mardan has launched the Clean and Green Youth Fellowship Program to involve young volunteers in cleanliness, sanitation, tree plantation and environmental protection activities across the city.
The programme was inaugurated by WSSCM Chief Executive Officer Engineer Adil Nawaz during a ceremony in Mardan attended by the company’s management staff. Officials said the initiative is aimed at strengthening community participation in public service monitoring and supporting the Clean and Green Mardan campaign.
Speaking at the ceremony, Engineer Adil Nawaz said the fellowship would encourage young people to take an active role in building a cleaner, greener and healthier Mardan. He said the programme would also promote awareness about social responsibility, environmental protection and civic participation.
Under the initiative, young people from Mardan will be able to apply online for registration as volunteers. Volunteer teams will be formed at the neighbourhood council level to help monitor sanitation and related municipal services in their areas.
Volunteers to monitor sanitation services
The WSSCM chief executive said registered volunteers would observe cleanliness, sanitation services and the provision of clean drinking water in their respective localities.
He said volunteers would submit observations and feedback to WSSCM, allowing the company to improve the performance and efficiency of its field staff. The system is also expected to help identify public service issues in a timely manner and support their resolution.
Engineer Adil Nawaz said the programme would create a stronger link between citizens and the sanitation company by making youth part of the monitoring and improvement process.
Three-month fellowship planned in first phase
According to WSSCM, discussions are underway with various organizations to secure financial support for the fellowship programme.
In the first phase, selected candidates will serve as volunteers for three months. Their performance will be reviewed during the fellowship, and successful participants will receive certificates of appreciation in recognition of their service
