The Water and Sanitation Services Company Mardan (WSSCM) has completed the cleaning of 56 kilometres of drains and cleared seven flood-prone hotspots as part of its monsoon preparedness campaign to reduce the risk of urban flooding.

The pre-monsoon operation aims to improve drainage, protect residential areas and ensure the uninterrupted flow of rainwater during the upcoming monsoon season.

Monsoon Preparedness Measures Completed

According to WSSCM, sanitation teams carried out extensive desilting and cleaning operations across key drainage channels and flood-vulnerable locations in Mardan.

Officials said the work focused on removing silt, waste and other obstructions that could block water flow and increase the risk of flooding during heavy rainfall.

Focus On Flood Risk Reduction

The company said clearing major drains and identified flood hotspots is part of its strategy to minimize urban flooding, improve public safety and strengthen emergency preparedness.

Residents have also been urged to avoid dumping solid waste into drains to help keep the drainage system functional throughout the monsoon season.

Authorities Continue Monitoring

WSSCM said monitoring teams will remain active during the rainy season to respond quickly to drainage issues and ensure timely maintenance where required.

Officials added that coordination with relevant government departments will continue to support effective flood management during periods of heavy rainfall.
