November 2, 2026: WhatsApp is preparing to introduce a cover photo feature for personal accounts, allowing users to add a large banner image to their profiles without changing their existing profile pictures.
The feature, previously available only to WhatsApp Business accounts, is expected to give regular users more options to personalise their profiles.
Under the planned update, users will be able to display a landscape cover image at the top of their WhatsApp profile. The image will also appear in the app’s settings and chat information screens.
Unlike the existing profile picture, the cover photo will occupy a separate space, allowing both images to remain visible independently.
To add a cover photo, users will need to open their WhatsApp profile and select the edit option.
The feature is expected to offer three ways to create or upload a cover image: taking a new photograph using the phone’s camera, selecting an existing image from the gallery, or generating a new image using Meta AI.
WhatsApp will automatically adjust the selected image to fit the designated cover photo area.
The planned addition would bring a feature already familiar to WhatsApp Business users to personal accounts, offering greater flexibility in profile customisation.
The feature is still being prepared for introduction, and a confirmed public release date has not been provided.
