PESHAWAR, Pakistan: The Women Chamber of Commerce & Industry Peshawar Division (WCCIPD) has reaffirmed its solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Youm-e-Istehsal, calling for the protection of human rights and the peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in line with relevant United Nations resolutions.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, WCCIPD President Qurat ul Ain Mumtaz said the chamber would continue extending moral and humanitarian support to the people of Kashmir. She said the chamber stands in solidarity with Kashmiri women, children, and civilians.
WCCIPD Raises Human Rights Concerns
Referring to the developments of 5 August 2019, Mumtaz said those actions had adversely affected the rights of people in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir. She expressed concern over what she described as continued restrictions on civil liberties, freedom of expression, and other human rights.
She said the humanitarian situation, particularly affecting women, children, and civilians, requires greater international attention.
Call for UN Action
Mumtaz urged the United Nations to pursue the implementation of its relevant Security Council resolutions regarding Jammu and Kashmir. She also called on international human rights organizations and the wider international community to take meaningful steps to safeguard the rights and dignity of the people living in the region.
According to the WCCIPD statement, the chamber believes that a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, consistent with relevant UN Security Council resolutions, is important for long-term peace, regional stability, and sustainable economic development in South Asia.
The statement added that Pakistan’s businesswomen would continue to support the people of Kashmir through what it described as moral and humanitarian platform
