Turkish Land Forces Commander Meets Pakistan Air Chief to Strengthen Defence Cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Commander of the Turkish Land Forces, General Metin Tokel, called on Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu at Air Headquarters in Islamabad on June 11, 2026, to discuss bilateral defence cooperation and areas of mutual interest.

During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on enhancing military collaboration between Pakistan and Türkiye, with a particular focus on training, defence cooperation, and emerging technologies.

Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu highlighted the longstanding historical, cultural, and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Türkiye, noting that the partnership is rooted in mutual trust, shared strategic interests, and Islamic fraternity. He reaffirmed Pakistan Air Force’s commitment to further strengthening defence ties with Türkiye.

The Air Chief also emphasized the importance of close coordination between the armed forces of both countries in light of evolving regional security dynamics. He briefed the visiting dignitary on Pakistan Air Force’s efforts to enhance indigenous defence capabilities under the National Aerospace Science and Technology Park initiative, including advancements in unmanned aerial systems, artificial intelligence, and other emerging defence technologies.

General Metin Tokel praised the professionalism and operational capabilities of the Pakistan Air Force and commended its modernization efforts under the current leadership. He expressed appreciation for the Air Chief’s role in transforming the force into a modern and self-reliant institution.

The Turkish commander also showed keen interest in expanding cooperation in training, capacity building, and advanced technologies. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing collaboration through joint exercises, exchange programmes, and coordinated military activities.

According to the Pakistan Air Force, the meeting reflected the strong and enduring defence partnership between Pakistan and Türkiye and underscored the shared commitment of both countries to regional peace, stability, and long-term strategic cooperation.
