A teacher who survived the roof collapse at a tuition centre in Lahore’s Kahna area has shared her first statement from the hospital, describing the circumstances leading up to the tragic incident that claimed multiple children’s lives.

The injured teacher, Anila, currently under treatment at Lahore General Hospital, said she runs the tuition centre to support her family and has been teaching children for the past two years. She noted that 30 to 35 students were usually enrolled, while 20 to 22 children were present at the time of the incident.

She explained that the roof had been leaking during recent rains, and repair work was underway when the structure suddenly collapsed. “I did not know the roof would fall,” she said, adding that her financial condition is modest and her husband works as a cart vendor at a local market.

Anila said her daughter, who was also injured, has been discharged from hospital, while she herself is expected to recover and leave in the coming days.

According to officials, an FIR has been registered over the incident, which occurred in Kahna’s Basti Eidgah area. The case includes allegations of negligence during repair work and excessive load on the roof. Authorities said 14 children were killed and 8 others injured in the collapse.

Police have taken several individuals, including the property owner, into custody as investigations continue. Officials have described the incident as a result of structural failure and alleged negligence, while further legal proceedings are underway.
