TIMERGARA: Lawyers in Timergara have expressed opposing views on the reported imposition of Governor’s Rule and an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with one group boycotting court proceedings while another held a ceremony to welcome the decision.
The contrasting reactions emerged during separate gatherings organised by members of the legal community at the District Bar Association Timergara.
District Bar Association Lawyers Boycott Court Proceedings
Lawyers affiliated with the District Bar Association Timergara boycotted court proceedings in protest against the reported decision, causing difficulties for litigants appearing before the courts.
A meeting was held at A. Jameel Hall following a call by the Provincial Bar Council. A large number of lawyers attended.
District Bar Association President Advocate Muhammad Saleem Khan, General Secretary Advocate Zakirullah Khan, and Advocates Sajid Mahmood, Malik Rasheed Khan, Kifayat Yar Bukhari, Malik Sher Hayat Khan and Muhammad Yar addressed the gathering.
The speakers unanimously condemned the federal government’s reported decision to impose Governor’s Rule and an emergency in the province, describing the move as unconstitutional and illegal.
They expressed concern that the decision could affect the provincial government’s constitutional mandate, democratic principles and the rule of law.
The lawyers argued that there was no reasonable justification for the measures and described them as contrary to the public mandate, democratic norms and the 25th Constitutional Amendment.
They reaffirmed their commitment to democracy, the Constitution and the supremacy of law, saying they would not support unconstitutional or illegal actions and would continue to follow the Provincial Bar Council’s directives.
The speakers also warned that if any lawyer affiliated with the District Bar Association Timergara were arrested without an FIR being registered, the matter would be challenged in court.
At the conclusion of the meeting, participants expressed grief over the death of Advocate Bakht Mukhtiar, a member of the Chakdara Bar, and offered prayers for the deceased.
People’s and Muslim Lawyers’ Forums Welcome Decision
In a separate development, the People’s Lawyers Forum and the Muslim Lawyers Forum organised a ceremony at the District Bar Association Timergara to welcome the reported imposition of Governor’s Rule and an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
A large number of members of the legal community attended the event, where participants celebrated the decision and distributed sweets.
Addressing the gathering, Advocate Alam Zeb and other speakers criticised the former provincial government, alleging that corruption, terrorism and poor governance had reached alarming levels.
They expressed hope that Governor’s Rule and the emergency measures would help restore peace, promote development and prosperity, and ensure justice for the people of the province.
The speakers strongly welcomed the federal government’s decision.
The ceremony concluded with special prayers for Pakistan’s security, stability and prosperity.
