November 4, 2026: WhatsApp has begun rolling out a new feature called Message Text Actions, allowing users to interact directly with phone numbers, dates, addresses and email addresses mentioned in chats without manually copying information into other applications.
The feature is designed to simplify everyday tasks by automatically identifying actionable information within messages and offering relevant options when users tap on it.
According to technology tracking website WABetaInfo, recognised information will appear with a dotted underline, indicating that additional actions are available.
When users tap a phone number in a conversation, they can choose to call it, save it to their contacts or copy it. Similarly, tapping a date or time will allow users to add the information to their phone’s calendar or create an event directly within WhatsApp.
The feature also recognises addresses shared in messages, allowing users to copy the location details or open them in a mapping application for navigation.
Email addresses will receive similar treatment, with options to copy the address or open it through the phone’s default email application.
Message Text Actions will work with both incoming and outgoing messages, making the functionality available regardless of who originally shared the information.
Users will also be able to provide feedback on suggested actions and report instances where WhatsApp incorrectly identifies information.
Addressing privacy concerns, WhatsApp says the recognition process takes place directly on the user’s device rather than through the company’s servers.
The company maintains that message contents are not transmitted to its servers for this functionality, preserving the platform’s end-to-end encryption.
The feature is currently being introduced gradually to selected users running recent versions of WhatsApp on Android and iOS.
Although WhatsApp has not announced a date for its wider release, availability is expected to expand over the coming weeks.
