The Punjab government has launched a free scooter and motorcycle training programme for women in Lahore to promote mobility, road safety and financial independence under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s women empowerment initiative.
The programme, introduced by Lahore City Traffic Police, allows university students, working women and homemakers to learn how to ride motorcycles and scooters without paying any training fee.
Participants receive practical driving lessons to help them travel confidently on roads. The training also covers traffic regulations and road safety awareness.
According to the Punjab government, the initiative aims to make daily commuting easier for women and reduce their dependence on others for transportation.
Women benefiting from the programme have welcomed the initiative, saying it will make travelling to educational institutions, workplaces and other destinations more convenient. They also expect it to help save time and transportation costs.
The government has described the programme as an effort to provide women with safer, easier and more independent travel options.
