ISLAMABAD, October 23, 2026: Three major organisations under the Ministry of Maritime Affairs have secured positions among Pakistan’s 10 most profitable state-owned enterprises (SOEs) for fiscal year 2024–25, reflecting the financial performance of the country’s port and shipping sector.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said on Friday that Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Port Qasim Authority (PQA) and Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) had been included in the national ranking of profitable public-sector enterprises.

According to the Federal State-Owned Enterprises Annual Aggregate Report for FY2024–25, released by the Central Monitoring Unit of the Finance Division, KPT secured sixth position, PQA ranked seventh and PNSC stood tenth among the country’s most profitable SOEs.

The rankings place all three maritime organisations among the leading profit-generating state enterprises, highlighting their contribution to public-sector financial performance.

Minister credits management and operational efficiency

In a statement, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry attributed the performance to the efforts of management and employees at the three organisations, along with oversight by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs.

He said the rankings demonstrated the potential of maritime institutions to strengthen the national economy through improved financial management, operational efficiency and effective utilisation of resources.

The minister emphasised that maintaining profitability required continued attention to institutional governance, accountability and operational improvements.

He called for sustained efforts to improve organisational performance and ensure that maritime institutions remained financially productive.

Maritime institutions support trade and connectivity

Karachi Port Trust and Port Qasim Authority manage two of the country’s principal maritime gateways, facilitating cargo movement and international trade.

Pakistan National Shipping Corporation provides national shipping services and supports maritime connectivity through its shipping operations.

Together, the three organisations play important roles in cargo handling, shipping and trade-related activities that support the country’s wider economy.

The minister said continued improvements in the management and performance of these institutions would help strengthen Pakistan’s maritime sector and its contribution to economic development.

He reiterated the importance of sound financial management, stronger governance and efficient operations in sustaining the progress recorded by maritime state-owned enterprises.
