SUJAWAL: A teacher was injured after a section of cement plaster from the staff room ceiling fell on him at Government Boys High School Begna Mori in Jati taluka, Sujawal, on Wednesday morning, highlighting concerns over the deteriorating condition of the school building.
According to Senior Headmaster Aziz Allah Dino Khowaja, Junior Elementary School Teacher Fayyaz Zaur was working on an official assignment in the staff room when the ceiling plaster suddenly fell on his head. He was taken to the Basic Health Unit Begna Mori for treatment and was later reported to be in stable condition.
Renovation Work Remains Incomplete
School teacher Abid Inayat said a tender for the school’s renovation had been approved and the contractor had demolished part of the building, including three classrooms. However, he said the contractor stopped work several months ago and has not returned to resume the project.
According to the teacher, repeated attempts have been made to contact the contractor, but no response has been received.
School staff have raised concerns about the safety of 22 teachers, more than 100 students and other employees due to the building’s deteriorating condition.
The headmaster said the school has a high student enrollment and that the condition of the building could pose serious risks to those using the premises.
Authorities Urged to Resume Renovation
The school administration said it had approached the District Education Officer (Secondary), Sujawal, and other relevant authorities regarding safety concerns, but the renovation work has yet to resume.
The school administration has urged Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah to take immediate steps to restart the renovation project and investigate the contractor’s failure to complete the work.
