KARACHI, September 25, 2026: Tamarind is best known for adding a distinctive sour flavour to chutneys, chaats and traditional dishes, but the fruit pulp can also be used in some household cleaning tasks.
Its natural acidity, including tartaric acid, may help loosen certain types of grime, mineral deposits and residues from some surfaces. As a traditional household cleaning method, tamarind is particularly associated with cleaning metal utensils and surfaces.
Cleaning Kitchen Sinks and Grease
Tamarind pulp can be rubbed over a kitchen sink to help loosen accumulated dirt and residue. A small amount of salt may also be used as a mild abrasive before the surface is thoroughly rinsed with water.
The same approach may be useful for some kitchen surfaces affected by food residue or buildup, although its effectiveness can vary depending on the material and type of stain.
Kitchen chimneys and other areas exposed to cooking fumes, oil and grease can develop stubborn deposits over time. Tamarind may help soften some of this buildup, making it easier to scrub away.
