NEW DELHI: A woman YouTuber in India reportedly lost gold jewellery and cash after burglars broke into her home in Tamil Nadu, days after she had shared reels displaying jewellery, bundles of cash and details about her movements on social media.
According to Indian media reports, the woman, identified as Madhumitha, is a YouTuber from the Thammathukonam area near Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu’s Kanniyakumari district. Her husband, Vinod Kumar, is a businessman.
Madhumitha regularly posted videos and reels on YouTube and Instagram featuring newly purchased gold jewellery, cash kept at home and details related to her travel and movements.
The couple reportedly travelled to Tirunelveli on Thursday and returned home late at night. They found that locks on doors at the rear of their house had been broken.
After checking the house, the family discovered that jewellery weighing around 960 grams and approximately Rs50,000 in cash had reportedly been stolen from a cupboard.
Police registered a case following a complaint from the family and launched an investigation into the burglary.
The incident has also drawn attention to the potential security risks of publicly sharing information about valuables, cash holdings and travel plans on social media.
