The Sindh government has approved plans to modernise the province’s education boards by introducing digital examination systems and e-marking under the Sindh Secondary Education Improvement Project, with support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The initiative aims to improve transparency, efficiency and governance in examinations by replacing traditional paper-based processes with technology-driven assessment methods. The proposed reforms will be presented to the Sindh Cabinet for approval before implementation.
The decision was discussed during a meeting chaired by Sindh Minister for Universities and Boards Muhammad Ismail Rahu at the office of the Secretary of Universities. The meeting was attended by Secretary Universities Muhammad Abbas Baloch, chairpersons of intermediate, secondary and technical education boards, and representatives of the Asian Development Bank’s fact-finding mission.
Project Director Rizwan Somro, Deputy Project Director Dr Luqman Nohri and examination reforms expert Ata Hussain Lakho also participated in the meeting.
E-Marking and Digital Reforms Planned
Officials reviewed plans to modernise the examination system through e-marking, digitalisation and institutional capacity building across all education boards.
Minister Ismail Rahu said the government intends to replace the conventional examination process with an e-marking system. He added that the proposal would be submitted to the Sindh Cabinet and, once approved, implementation would begin on a priority basis.
Under the project, IT experts will train education board staff, while boards will receive scanners, cutting machines, servers and other modern equipment to support digital examination management.
ADB Support for Examination Reforms
The minister said the reforms, being developed with ADB support, are expected to strengthen institutional capacity and improve merit, transparency and overall examination management through digital governance.
Officials also designated Karachi Intermediate Board Chairman Faqeer Muhammad Lakho as the focal person for the examination modernisation project.
