ISLAMABAD, Oct 13 — Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has called on Pakistan’s business community, industrialists and manufacturers to adopt internationally recognised standards to strengthen exports, improve competitiveness and support sustainable economic growth.

In his message on World Standards Day, the prime minister said standards play a vital role in building a safer, more sustainable and prosperous economy, while also supporting progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.

Referring to this year’s theme, “Shared Vision for a Better World: Spotlight on SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy,” Shehbaz Sharif said standardisation provides a practical foundation for promoting clean energy, tackling climate change and supporting a sustainable economy.

He said the quality of products and services had become central to national competitiveness in the global economy.

According to the prime minister, compliance with international standards is essential for improving access to overseas markets, boosting exports and strengthening confidence in the “Made in Pakistan” brand.

He said recognised standards also provide industries with a framework for improving quality, efficiency and innovation.

Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the role of the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority, saying the national standards body was responsible for developing and promoting standards and aligning them with relevant international benchmarks and best practices.

He said such efforts were important for helping Pakistani industries compete more effectively in both domestic and international markets.

The prime minister said the government remained committed to supporting the Ministry of Science and Technology and PSQCA in strengthening the country’s quality infrastructure and promoting a culture of quality across different sectors.

He added that stronger standards could help drive innovation, protect consumers and support sustainable economic development.

Shehbaz Sharif also praised PSQCA, the Ministry of Science and Technology and other stakeholders for their work in promoting quality and compliance.

He urged businesses and manufacturers to treat standardisation as a core principle of enterprise, saying cooperation around quality, innovation and sustainability could help build a more resilient and prosperous future for the country.
