LOS ANGELES: International music star Shakira says she is not currently interested in pursuing a romantic relationship, explaining that her focus remains on her children and her career.

The singer-songwriter, who has been single since the end of her long-term relationship with former footballer Gerard Piqué in 2022, said she is content with her current priorities and enjoys spending time on personal and professional growth.

In an interview with The Times, Shakira said there is currently no room in her life for a new relationship.

“My kids are my priority,” she said, adding that she is also deeply committed to her career. The singer noted that she is enjoying her time alone and feels more connected to her work than ever before.

Shakira shares two sons, Milan and Sasha, with Piqué. Since their separation, the singer has continued to release music and perform internationally while balancing family responsibilities.

Reflecting on the period following the breakup, Shakira described it as one of the most difficult chapters of her life. She said the end of her relationship coincided with health challenges faced by her father, William, who was hospitalised after a serious fall.

The Grammy-winning artist said the experiences tested her emotionally but ultimately helped her develop greater resilience and perspective.

Shakira explained that difficult moments can reveal a person’s inner strength and deepen appreciation for the support of family and friends. She added that overcoming hardship has made her stronger and more aware of the importance of personal growth.

The singer’s comments have resonated with fans, many of whom praised her openness about balancing parenthood, career ambitions and life after a high-profile relationship.
