CHILAS: At least seven people, including six tourists, were killed after a vehicle travelling to Fairy Meadows plunged into a ravine in the Tattu Nala area of Diamer district in Gilgit-Baltistan, police and rescue officials said on Monday.
The victims were heading to the popular tourist destination when their jeep reportedly lost control and fell into the ravine. Authorities said all seven occupants of the vehicle died in the accident.
According to rescue officials, the driver, identified as Ziaullah, was a resident of Darel in Diamer district.
Two of the deceased tourists were identified as Ali and Sajjad, both from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Officials said four other victims are believed to be from Punjab, while efforts are underway to confirm their identities.
Rescue operation underway
Rescue teams were dispatched to the accident site and continued recovery efforts following the crash.
Police said the vehicle was travelling on the route leading to Fairy Meadows, one of Gilgit-Baltistan’s most visited tourist destinations, when the accident occurred.
Authorities are collecting further details about the victims and investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
