ISLAMABAD: PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja on Wednesday claimed that former prime minister Imran Khan had lost vision in one eye due to alleged mistreatment during imprisonment and was facing serious health concerns while in custody.
Speaking to reporters outside the Supreme Court in Islamabad, Raja alleged that the PTI founder was being denied constitutional and legal rights while remaining imprisoned for nearly 1,000 days. The claims come amid ongoing legal and political disputes involving the former prime minister.
The remarks followed Imran Khan’s recent medical treatment at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), where he reportedly underwent a fourth intravitreal eye injection on April 28.
According to a medical report submitted to the Supreme Court by Khan’s lawyer and court-appointed amicus curiae Salman Safdar, the former premier was diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), an eye condition caused by blockage of the main retinal vein.
The report stated that CRVO is commonly linked to health complications including hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, and cardiovascular disease.
PTI alleges restrictions on meetings and legal access
During the media interaction, Salman Akram Raja alleged that meetings between Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were being restricted despite court orders regarding visitation rights.
He also claimed that legal documentation, including vakalatnamas, was being obstructed and that only selected individuals were being allowed to meet the PTI founder.
Raja further alleged that Imran Khan’s sisters were not being permitted to meet him despite what he described as concerns over Khan’s health condition.
PTI criticizes legal and political situation
The PTI leader also alleged that multiple cases against Bushra Bibi, including Toshakhana-related references, were politically motivated.
Raja said petitions had already been filed in the Supreme Court but claimed hearings were not taking place. He added that the party had exhausted legal options and would now raise the issue publicly.
Commenting on the broader political situation, Raja said Pakistan needed political stability and claimed the country’s economy and security situation had deteriorated in recent years.
There was no immediate response from government officials or prison authorities regarding the allegations made by the PTI leader.
