Brazilian football legend Ronaldinho is set to make a return to competitive football nearly a decade after his last competitive appearance. Italian third-tier club Ravenna has announced that the 46-year-old former star will feature in the derby against local rivals Forli on November 15.
Ronaldinho played a key role in Brazil’s 2002 FIFA World Cup triumph and won the Ballon d’Or in 2005. During his illustrious career, he represented major European clubs including Barcelona and AC Milan.
His last competitive appearance came in 2015 when he played for Brazilian club Fluminense. Ronaldinho officially announced his retirement from professional football in 2018.
Ravenna became associated with Ronaldinho in June this year, after which he also acquired a stake in the club. According to club owner and Ronaldinho’s friend Ignazio Cipriani, the move aims to bring the people of the city closer to the team.
Ravenna are currently second in Serie C Group B with 20 points. Ronaldinho’s expected appearance has generated excitement among supporters, with the November 15 derby expected to be a memorable occasion for the club and its fans.
