MARDAN: Jalil-ul-Mulk, General Secretary of Rabita Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (RJUI), has criticised the government’s economic policies, urging authorities to review recent fuel price increases and introduce measures to provide relief to the public.
Speaking to media representatives in Mardan, Jalil-ul-Mulk said rising inflation, unemployment, utility costs and other economic challenges have increased financial pressure on households. He also questioned government spending, arguing that public concerns should be given greater priority.
Calls for Review of Fuel Prices and Government Spending
Jalil-ul-Mulk said the recent increase in petrol prices has added to the cost-of-living burden. He questioned why fuel prices in Pakistan remain comparatively high despite reports that there has been no major disruption to the country’s fuel supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.
He also criticised government expenditures, calling for greater fiscal discipline and a stronger focus on public welfare during a period of economic hardship.
Raises Concerns Over Utilities and Energy Policy
The RJUI leader also highlighted electricity and gas load-shedding, unemployment and access to clean drinking water as key issues affecting citizens.
Commenting on Pakistan’s energy sector, he said long-term policy decisions are needed to improve electricity generation and reduce dependence on costly alternatives. He also referred to decisions related to Independent Power Producers (IPPs), saying energy planning should prioritise sustainable and affordable solutions.
Opposition Urged to Raise Public Issues
Jalil-ul-Mulk called on opposition parties and elected representatives to raise issues affecting the public, including inflation, rising fuel prices and utility shortages.
He urged the government to review its economic decisions and introduce immediate relief measures to ease financial pressure on low-income households.
