Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor has apologized after a slip of the tongue during a Dussehra message sparked criticism on social media.

According to Indian media reports, Kapoor attended a Dussehra celebration in Kolkata on October 20 with the team of his upcoming film Ramayana. While speaking about the victory of good over evil, he accidentally reversed the meaning of his statement, saying that ultimately goodness and honesty would be defeated.

His intended message was reportedly that good ultimately triumphs over evil. A video of the event later circulated widely on social media, prompting users to criticize the actor over the statement.

Kapoor subsequently addressed the incident at a song event for Ramayana in Chennai and apologized, saying that he had misspoken while speaking at the Dussehra celebration. He also quoted lyrics from his film Rockstar while explaining his state of mind.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana, while Sunny Deol plays Hanuman.

The first part of the film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on November 5, coinciding with Diwali, while the second part is expected to arrive in cinemas in 2027.
