ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Senator Rana Sanaullah has warned that political parties failing to stand with security forces in the fight against terrorism risk being sidelined, stressing that eliminating militancy must remain a national priority.

Speaking to a private television channel on Friday, October 23, Sanaullah said political parties must demonstrate genuine commitment to counterterrorism efforts, arguing that restoring peace was essential for improving people’s lives.

“Any political party that does not sincerely stand with the security forces against terrorism will be sidelined,” he said.

The prime minister’s adviser maintained that the fight against terrorism required national unity and that political differences should not undermine efforts to address security challenges.

He said parties unwilling to support the counterterrorism agenda would find themselves excluded from the broader national effort.

PM approves Rs160 billion for KP, says Sanaullah

Discussing the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sanaullah said the provincial governor had requested Rs160 billion in federal funding, which Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif immediately approved.

He said eliminating terrorism from the province remained the government’s foremost priority.

According to Sanaullah, meaningful improvements in people’s lives would remain difficult without addressing the threat posed by militant violence.

He emphasised that counterterrorism efforts required coordinated action and the support of political stakeholders across the country.

No discussion on 28th Constitutional Amendment

Responding to speculation about a possible 28th Constitutional Amendment, Sanaullah said no discussions had taken place on the matter and no draft had been presented.

He dismissed suggestions that a formal proposal was currently under consideration, clarifying that the government had neither discussed nor received a draft of the proposed amendment.

The adviser reiterated that the country’s immediate priority should be achieving unity against terrorism rather than allowing political disagreements to distract from security concerns.

He called for a collective national approach to counterterrorism, maintaining that lasting peace and stability were essential for the country’s development.
