Bollywood actress Rakul Preet Singh has strongly denied media reports linking her to an Income Tax Department search operation conducted at multiple locations in Mumbai.
In a statement shared on social media on Monday, the Yaariyan actress said reports about her involvement had been presented sensationally without verifying the facts. She clarified that the Income Tax action was not directed against her and urged media outlets to withdraw speculative reports linking her to the investigation.
Rakul Preet said she comes from an “army family” and built her career through hard work without a godfather in the film industry. She added that she has been regularly paying her taxes since the age of 20.
The actress also firmly denied any connection to illegal foreign remittances or any production house allegedly involved in such transactions. She said she does not own any “benami” properties in India or abroad and has never accepted valuable property as a gift.
Rakul Preet appealed to media organizations to retract any false, malicious or speculative reports about her and issue appropriate clarifications. While acknowledging the commercial pressures faced by the media, she said such pressures should not come at the expense of fact-based journalism, an individual’s reputation or livelihood.
The Income Tax Department had reportedly conducted searches at several locations in Mumbai as part of an investigation into alleged financial irregularities.
According to Indian media reports, around 12 locations were searched, including premises allegedly linked to Rakul Preet’s father-in-law and filmmaker Vashu Bhagnani, as well as locations reportedly associated with Panoorama Studios. Authorities were examining financial transactions and alleged irregularities.
Rakul Preet’s clarification came after reports began linking her name to the searches. The actress has rejected those reports and maintained that she has no connection with the investigation.
