Hassan Abdal —A large-scale enforcement campaign by the Punjab Food Department has significantly disrupted the illegal transport of wheat and flour from Punjab to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with authorities intercepting dozens of vehicles over the past six weeks.
Officials said nearly 78 vehicles were stopped at key border points in Attock and Rawalpindi divisions, where approximately 1,470 metric tonnes of wheat and flour were recovered during inspections. The seized consignments were reportedly being moved without authorization into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The operation is part of broader government efforts to stabilize wheat supply, prevent artificial shortages, and ensure availability of essential food commodities at regulated prices for local consumers.
According to officials, strict monitoring points have been established in Taxila and Hassan Abdal, where all suspected transport vehicles undergo detailed inspections. Advanced screening methods are also being used to identify concealed or undocumented cargo.

Food Department teams have intensified daily operations in the region, targeting flour mills and transport routes linked to inter-provincial movement of wheat-based products. Authorities say the sustained enforcement has made smuggling increasingly difficult.
Officials added that local markets in Attock and Rawalpindi are now witnessing improved supply stability, with wheat and flour available at government-approved rates, reflecting early results of the crackdown.
