LAHORE, May 31: Punjab Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar has directed officials to upgrade facilities at Tehsil Sports Complex Dhobi Ghat in Murree and develop a sustainable management model for sports infrastructure across the province.
During a visit to the sports complex, the minister reviewed existing facilities, administrative operations and infrastructure requirements. Officials briefed him on ongoing sports activities, available amenities and operational challenges at the facility.
The visit focused on improving sports facilities in Murree, with directives issued for the repair of damaged infrastructure and the addition of new amenities aimed at supporting athletes and increasing public use of the complex.
Repair and infrastructure upgrades ordered
The minister instructed officials to repair all non-functional and damaged lights at the complex to ensure uninterrupted sports activities. He directed the concerned contractor to complete the work within the specified timeframe, after which the Project Management Unit (PMU) will submit a compliance report.
He also ordered the immediate repair or replacement of a damaged basketball ring and a broken glass panel at the swimming pool facility.
According to officials, the minister emphasized that maintaining sports infrastructure in fully operational condition should remain a departmental priority.
New facilities proposed
Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar directed authorities to include spectator shades, practice cricket pitches, GI fencing and other required amenities in the development plan for the complex.
He said modern sports infrastructure is important for supporting young athletes and encouraging participation in sporting activities.
The minister also instructed the Divisional Sports Officer to prepare proposals on fee structures and staffing requirements for sports complexes across Rawalpindi Division to improve administrative efficiency and service delivery.
Focus on sustainable operations
During the visit, the minister said the Punjab government is working to modernize the sports sector and improve the management of sports facilities throughout the province.
He stated that sports complexes would gradually be shifted toward a self-sustaining operational model to support maintenance, infrastructure improvements and operational expenses.
The minister also announced that the process for appointing a Tehsil Sports Officer (TSO) in Murree would be initiated on a priority basis to strengthen local sports administration and facilitate athletes.
Sports development initiatives
Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar said the provincial government is continuing efforts to revive sports grounds, engage young people in positive activities and expand access to quality sports facilities.
He added that the government aims to create more opportunities for athletes to compete and develop their skills at national and international levels.
