LAHORE: Punjab authorities have decided to hold Basant next year in February instead of January, with the final date to be announced after approval from the provincial government.
According to sources, the provincial Home Department and district administration have prepared a plan for the festival in Lahore. The timing has been adjusted with the expected start of Ramadan in February, while preparations and regulations for kite flying are being worked out.
Final Basant Date Awaiting Approval
Sources said the exact date for the festival will be announced once the provincial government gives formal approval. Authorities are also expected to review arrangements and lessons from previous preparations while finalising the framework for the event.
Rules governing kite flying and the production of kites and kite string are also being prepared. Permission for the manufacture of kites and related materials is expected to be issued once the relevant regulations are finalised.
Basant was last officially celebrated in Punjab in 2009. The proposed return of the festival comes with authorities preparing regulations intended to govern kite flying and related activities.
