The Attock Food Department has assured residents that the uninterrupted supply of wheat flour and the availability of affordable atta and roti remain among the Punjab government’s top priorities, while also pledging to safeguard the interests of local wheat growers.
Speaking to the media, District Food Controller (DFC) Attock Shams Abbas said the department is maintaining round-the-clock monitoring of wheat stocks, flour distribution, and market prices to prevent shortages and ensure consumers have access to essential food items at reasonable rates.
Flour available at official prices
Shams Abbas said 10-kilogram flour bags are being sold across Attock district at Rs1,100, while 20-kilogram bags are available for Rs2,200.
He added that the Food Department’s officers and field staff remain available 24 hours a day, with official offices and contact numbers open to receive public complaints, provide information, and address concerns related to wheat and flour availability.
Punjab has sufficient wheat reserves
The DFC said Punjab currently has adequate wheat stocks and there is no shortage of wheat in the province.
According to him, flour mills and distribution networks are operating normally, enabling uninterrupted flour supplies across the district. He said the department is closely monitoring the market to prevent hoarding, profiteering, and artificial shortages.
Balancing consumer relief and farmer interests
Addressing concerns from wheat growers, Shams Abbas said the government’s policy aims to balance affordable flour prices for consumers with fair returns for farmers.
He noted that farmers are currently receiving more than Rs4,500 per maund in the open market, while imported wheat remains comparatively less expensive and helps stabilize flour prices.
The official added that wheat imports have historically been used whenever necessary to bridge supply gaps and strengthen national food security.
Public urged to report overcharging
The Food Department urged consumers to immediately report cases of overpricing, hoarding, or artificial shortages so that prompt action can be taken.
The Punjab government has also strengthened digital monitoring of wheat movement and stock levels as part of broader efforts to maintain food security, stabilize prices, and ensure a steady supply of flour across the province.
