ISLAMABAD, August 7, 2026: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has marked its 79th anniversary and Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day by completing a clean drinking water initiative benefiting more than 150,000 people in South Punjab and Sindh.
Implemented in partnership with the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF), the project has provided sustainable access to safe drinking water in communities where water sources were damaged or contaminated during the devastating floods of 2024.
The PTCL 79th anniversary clean water initiative includes reverse osmosis plants, rainwater harvesting systems, bio-sand filters, hand pumps and tube wells. The infrastructure is designed to provide long-term water access in some of Pakistan’s most climate-vulnerable and water-stressed areas.
Anniversary Initiative Expands Clean Water Access
PTCL said the project reflects its 79-year journey of connecting people and contributing to Pakistan’s development beyond telecommunications.
The latest initiative builds on an earlier phase of PTCL-supported clean water interventions in Thar, which benefited more than 15,000 people.
Following the results of the first phase, PTCL and PPAF expanded the programme across a wider geographical area and introduced water solutions suited to the needs and conditions of different communities.
PTCL Chief Executive Officer Nadeem Khan said the company chose to mark the anniversary by addressing a basic need affecting thousands of flood-hit families.
“Clean drinking water is not a privilege; it is a basic human need and a prerequisite for healthy and thriving communities,” he said.
Khan said PTCL’s success should also be measured by its contribution to improving lives and building a more inclusive and climate-resilient Pakistan.
PTCL, PPAF Focus on Climate-Affected Communities
PPAF Chief Executive Officer Nader Gul Barech said access to safe drinking water was essential for improving health, livelihoods and community resilience.
He said the partnership with PTCL was delivering sustainable and community-driven water solutions for populations facing climate-related challenges.
The project forms part of PTCL’s broader sustainability and social impact programme under its “DilSe” platform, which supports initiatives related to digital inclusion, economic resilience and quality of life.
