PTA Introduces New Facility to Help Mobile Users Stop Unwanted Balance Deductions

Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has introduced a new facility aimed at protecting mobile users from unnecessary balance deductions by giving them greater control over value-added services (VAS).

According to the regulator, all mobile operators have been instructed to provide users with easy access to information about active services on their numbers and an option to immediately deactivate any unwanted subscriptions. The move is designed to improve transparency and give consumers better control over their mobile accounts.

In recent years, users have frequently complained that services such as caller tunes, news alerts, games, and entertainment subscriptions were activated without clear consent, leading to unintentional balance deductions.

Greater control for mobile users

PTA said that subscribers can now check all active value-added services linked to their mobile numbers within seconds using USSD codes or official mobile applications. Users will be able to identify which services are active and discontinue them directly.

Experts say the initiative is particularly beneficial for prepaid users who often face unexplained deductions. The new system is expected to enhance transparency and significantly reduce unwanted subscriptions.

How to disable unwanted services

Users can dial specific USSD codes depending on their mobile network or use official apps such as My Jazz, My Zong, My Telenor, or the Ufone app to view and manage active services. Typically, users can select a service and choose the “Unsubscribe” or “Deactivate” option to stop it immediately.

If issues persist, users can contact their mobile operator or lodge a complaint through PTA’s grievance system for further action.
