TIMERGARA: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in Lower Dir has announced its support for the imposition of Governor’s Rule and an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, welcoming what it described as a constitutional measure by the federal government.
The announcement was made by former Member of the Provincial Assembly Muhammad Zameen Khan during a media interaction at the Timergara Press Club. He was accompanied by PPP colleagues Haji Muhammad Zaman, contractor Fazal Subhan, and Mazhar Khan, president of the party in Tehsil Balambat.
Muhammad Zameen Khan said the imposition of Governor’s Rule and an emergency had become necessary amid what he described as worsening insecurity, terrorism, corruption and poor governance in the province.
He criticised the previous provincial government, alleging that its policies had failed to address the province’s challenges and had pushed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa towards serious difficulties.
The former MPA said the federal government had invited representatives of the previous provincial government for negotiations aimed at restoring peace. However, he claimed that the provincial government had adopted an uncompromising position and declined to cooperate with federal authorities.
Muhammad Zameen Khan maintained that the federal government had taken a constitutional and legal step. He further stated that President Asif Ali Zardari had imposed Governor’s Rule and an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the federal government’s recommendation.
The remarks reflect the Lower Dir PPP leadership’s position on the reported measure, while the criticism of the previous provincial government represents the party leaders’ own assessment.
