ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to pass the burden of rising crude oil prices onto consumers, resulting in an increase in the prices of petroleum products, sources said. The new rates will take effect from midnight tonight.
According to sources, petrol prices are expected to rise by Rs13 per litre, while diesel will increase by Rs14 per litre. The adjustment comes after last week’s reduction, when the government cut petrol and diesel prices by Rs1.97 per litre.
Previously, petrol had been reduced to Rs297.53 per litre from Rs299.50, and high-speed diesel was set at Rs309.50 per litre, down from Rs311.47. The new decision reverses part of these reductions in response to rising global crude oil costs.
The government’s move is aimed at aligning domestic petroleum prices with international oil price trends, though it is expected to increase the financial burden on consumers and transport sectors across the country.
