PCB Considers Major Changes Following Pakistan Team’s Recent Struggles

2 Min Read

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly preparing for significant changes to the national team’s leadership and management structure following a series of disappointing results across formats.

According to sources, key decisions regarding the Test captaincy, coaching staff and cricket administration are expected to be discussed during meetings scheduled for Friday and Saturday under the chairmanship of PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

Among the major proposals under consideration is a change in the leadership of Pakistan’s Test side. Sources suggest that current Test captain Shan Masood could be replaced, with all-rounder Salman Ali Agha emerging as a leading candidate to take over the role.

Shan Masood was appointed Test captain ahead of Pakistan’s tour of Australia in 2023. Since then, Pakistan has played 16 Tests under his leadership, winning four and losing 12. The team’s recent 2-0 series defeat in Bangladesh has intensified scrutiny of its performances.

Coaching and Management Reshuffle Under Discussion

Sources also indicate that changes to the coaching setup are being considered as part of a broader review of the team’s structure.

Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan is reportedly being considered for the role of Test head coach, while the future role of former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed remains uncertain.

In addition, former Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez is said to be under consideration for the position of Director of International Cricket.

Selection Committee and Administration May Also Change

The review process could extend beyond the playing and coaching staff. Sources suggest that changes within the selection committee are also being discussed as officials assess the team’s recent performances.

Several administrative positions, including key roles within cricket operations, may also be reviewed as part of efforts to strengthen Pakistan cricket and improve results at the international level.

No official announcements have yet been made, and final decisions are expected after the PCB’s upcoming meetings.
