BAHAWALPUR: An elderly couple in Bahawalpur reportedly jumped into a canal after becoming distressed over alleged family disputes involving the division of property.
According to rescue officials, emergency teams launched a search operation after receiving information about the incident. Rescuers managed to save the elderly woman, while the body of her 75-year-old husband was recovered from the Shashmahi Canal a day later.
Rescue sources said the couple had allegedly taken the extreme step after repeated disputes among their children over the distribution of family property.
However, the couple’s sons gave a different account to police, stating that their parents had not been mentally well.
Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the factors that led to the couple entering the canal.
