Paraguay defeated Turkey 1–0 in the FIFA World Cup 2026, ending Turkey’s tournament run. Midfielder Matías Galarza scored the decisive goal just 64 seconds into the match, setting a new record for the fastest goal of the tournament.

The match, played in the United States, saw Paraguay deliver a disciplined defensive performance despite playing with ten men for most of the game. They absorbed sustained Turkish pressure and managed to hold on to their early lead until the final whistle.

Galarza’s early strike sets record

Galarza stunned the opposition with a powerful long-range effort from nearly 25 meters out immediately after kickoff. The goal not only decided the match but also became the fastest goal recorded in this World Cup so far.

The previous record had been set just hours earlier by Morocco’s Ismail Saibari, who scored in the 71st second against Scotland. Galarza’s strike surpassed that mark within the same competition window.

Red card adds pressure on Paraguay

Paraguay were reduced to 10 men before halftime after midfielder Miguel Almirón received a straight red card. Reports indicate he was also the first player to be sanctioned under a newly enforced regulation related to on-field conduct.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Paraguay maintained a compact defensive structure and successfully neutralized Turkey’s attacking attempts.

Turkey eliminated after group-stage setback

The defeat confirmed Turkey’s exit from the tournament, while Paraguay secured a crucial comeback result following their heavy 1–4 defeat to the United States in their opening match.
