LAHORE: Two Pakistani women have achieved a milestone in the country’s sailing history after successfully completing the first stage toward becoming international sailing judges, officials said.
Zoya Asad Ali and Mehnaz Jamil participated in the World Sailing International Seminar in Thailand, where they passed the judges’ examination with high scores following the training programme.
The achievement marks the first time Pakistani women have completed the international judges’ course in sailing. Both athletes are associated with the Pakistan Air Force Yacht Club.
Under World Sailing requirements, the two sailors must now officiate in three international events within four years. Their performances during those competitions will be assessed before they can receive full international sailing judge status.
Pakistan has previously produced only a few international sailing judges. In the 1980s, late Captain Zakaullah Chaudhry and retired Khalid Mahmood Akhtar served in the role.
