ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Somalia have agreed to enhance defence cooperation and strengthen collaboration in maritime security as Somali Defence Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi held important talks with Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf at Naval Headquarters in Islamabad.
The meeting focused on regional maritime security developments, mutual professional interests, and opportunities to expand defence relations between the two countries.
Admiral Naveed Ashraf reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to its longstanding diplomatic and military partnership with Somalia, highlighting Islamabad’s desire to build a sustainable and multi-dimensional relationship with Mogadishu.
The Naval Chief emphasized the importance of continued engagement between the two countries, particularly in areas related to maritime security and defence cooperation amid evolving regional challenges.
During the meeting, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi appreciated the Pakistan Navy’s efforts and proactive role in contributing to regional maritime security. He acknowledged Pakistan Navy’s professional capabilities and its contribution towards maintaining stability in maritime domains.
Both sides reiterated their commitment to further strengthening and diversifying bilateral defence ties, with a focus on cooperation that serves their shared interests.
The visit by the Somali Defence Minister reflects ongoing efforts by Pakistan and Somalia to deepen strategic engagement and enhance coordination in the defence and maritime sectors.
