RAWALPINDI: Pakistan and Somalia have agreed to deepen bilateral defence cooperation, strengthen military-to-military ties and expand capacity-building initiatives to address shared security challenges.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, and a high-level Somali delegation led by Defence Minister Ambassador Ahmed Moallim Fiqi at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Thursday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, the two sides discussed regional security developments, matters of mutual interest and measures to broaden defence and security collaboration between the two countries.
The talks focused on enhancing institutional engagement between the armed forces of Pakistan and Somalia, particularly through military training and capacity-building programmes.
Both sides emphasized that stronger defence ties could help the two countries respond more effectively to common security threats and contribute to regional stability.
The Somali defence minister appreciated Pakistan’s continued support and acknowledged the professional role of the Pakistan Armed Forces in promoting peace and stability.
Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to assisting Somalia in strengthening its security institutions and advancing long-term peace and stability in the region.
The meeting marked another step in growing Pakistan-Somalia defence engagement, following broader discussions between officials of the two countries on maritime security and bilateral military cooperation.
